Electrochaea
BioCat Avedore
The BioCat project set out to design, build and operate a 1 MW Power-to-Gas demonstration using biological methanation (Electrochaea’s biocatalyst) to convert renewable H₂ and biogenic CO₂ into grid-quality methane for injection. The Energiforskning final report describes the full engineering, construction and testing program and shows the demo integrated a local biogas/CO₂ source with electrolysis, yielding on the order of 708,215 kWh electricity → ~129,290 m³ H₂ → ~15,000 m³ CH₄ (with upstream biogas and CO₂ mass balances reported as well), together with lessons on reactor operation, gas conditioning, system control and techno-economic drivers for scaling to commercial units.
