Power2X
eFuels Rotterdam
Power2X, in partnership with infrastructure partner Advario, is developing a world-scale sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) and synthetic low-carbon fuels hub at the Port of Rotterdam. The project centers around an electro-fuel production facility designed to produce over 250,000 tonnes per year of eSAF, making it one of the largest eSAF projects announced in Europe and sufficient to fuel thousands of long-haul flights annually. It will use green hydrogen and imported green methanol as feedstocks to generate ultra-low carbon synthetic fuels, which are drop-in replacements for conventional jet fuels and other fuels with lifecycle emissions ~90 % lower than fossil equivalents. The integrated hub includes advanced fuel storage and logistics infrastructure (~230,000 m³) with marine and rail connections to support distribution across Europe and direct access to major airports such as Amsterdam Schiphol. The facility is aligned with the EU’s ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation. As part of project execution, Power2X has contracted Worley for engineering and project management services to advance early design and de-risk the front-end engineering phases. The project also features a technology selection with Honeywell UOP’s eFining™ methanol-to-jet process, which will be used to convert renewable methanol into sustainable aviation fuels at scale.
