Element Eins
The Element Eins initiative is a large-scale green hydrogen value chain development project in Lower Saxony, Germany, aimed at establishing one of Europe’s most significant renewable hydrogen ecosystems. It will integrate renewable electricity generation, electrolyser capacity, hydrogen storage, and distribution infrastructure to produce green hydrogen at industrial scale for use across hard-to-decarbonize sectors such as steel production, chemicals, mobility, and power. The project focuses on co-locating supply and demand within the region to create a vertically integrated hydrogen economy, reducing reliance on imported fuels and supporting Germany’s energy transition goals. It includes plans for large-scale water electrolysis powered by renewables, development of hydrogen logistics, and integration with industrial users to enable broad uptake of low-carbon hydrogen.
