Elyse Energy
eM-Rhone
The eM-Rhône project is an industrial-scale renewable methanol production facility being developed by ELYSE Energy at the Les Roches-Roussillon (OSIRIS) chemical platform in Salaise-sur-Sanne, Isère. The plant is designed to produce approximately 150,000 tonnes per year of e-methanol using green hydrogen generated from a ~240 MW electrolyser powered by low-carbon electricity and captured industrial CO₂. Carbon dioxide will be sourced from industrial facilities located on the OSIRIS site as well as from the Lafarge cement plant in Le Teil (Ardèche), with liquid CO₂ transported by rail to the production platform for utilization. The project requires approximately 27,000 tonnes per year of hydrogen and 195,000 tonnes per year of CO₂, and is intended to supply low-carbon methanol to the chemical and maritime fuel markets, reducing reliance on imported fossil methanol. eM-Rhône represents an estimated €700 million investment, has received support from the EU Innovation Fund, and is targeting construction start in 2025 with commissioning around 2028.
