Iberdrola
GREEN MEIGA
he Green Meiga project is a large-scale green methanol production facility being developed by Iberdrola with partner FORESA in Begonte, Galicia. The plant will use 151 MW of electrolyser capacity powered by renewable electricity to produce green hydrogen, which will be combined with captured CO₂ to synthesize approximately 100,000 tonnes per year of renewable methanol for use as a low-carbon liquid fuel and industrial feedstock. The project is supported by a €122.9 million EU Innovation Fund grant under the EU’s clean technology funding program and is targeted to begin operations in 2027. Iberdrola will act as Coordinator, thus leading and monitoring all those activities carried out during the main phases of the project. From an operative point of view, Iberdrola will be essentially involved in those activities related to the hydrogen production module, where it has a wider background and experience. FORESA will carry out all of those activities related to the reception and refinement of CO2 from biogenic sources and the CO2-capture module, also including the e-methanol synthesis. Furthermore, FORESA will strongly support the development and implementation of the Knowledge Sharing Plan.
