GrønGas Hjørring
Gron Gas
GrønGas Hjørring is a fully integrated Power-to-X and biogas project that combines wind power, green hydrogen production, biogas upgrading, and methanation to produce ISCC-certified RFNBO e-LNG. The system links a long-established biogas plant (expanded in 2023 with a new 9,600 m³ digester) to newly installed electrolyzers (2 MW in Phase I) supplied by renewable electricity from the Gårestrup Energy Island wind farm. Green hydrogen from Grøn Brint is methanated with biogenic CO₂ captured from the raw biogas stream, reducing CO₂ content from ~40% to ~15% while boosting methane yield and enabling production of up to 17 t/day of LBG/e-LNG. The project is the world’s first ISCC-certified RFNBO PtX plant, achieving its first hydrogen and e-LNG production in 2024–2025 following certification milestones from the Danish Energy Agency, ISCC, the European Commission, and UBA, and serves as a commercial-scale model for integrated agricultural biogas, hydrogen, and e-methane production.
