HySkies
Cancelled Project. The HySkies project was planned as Sweden’s first large-scale synthetic sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility, designed to produce approximately 82,000 tonnes per year of SAF and 9,000 tonnes per year of renewable diesel. The project was to use fossil-free hydrogen from a 200 MW electrolyser, biogenic CO₂ captured from a waste-to-energy plant, and sustainable ethanol in a two-step process combining gas fermentation and alcohol-to-jet (AtJ) conversion. The facility was expected to achieve up to 94% lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions reduction compared to conventional fossil jet fuel over its first decade of operation.
