Koppö Energia Kristinestad e-Methanol Project
Koppö Energia is developing a renewable e-methanol production facility in Kristinestad, Finland, selecting thyssenkrupp Uhde’s green methanol technology for synthesis of low-carbon methanol. The plant will use approximately 200 MW of renewable hydrogen electrolysis capacity combined with captured CO₂ to produce carbon-neutral e-methanol, supporting Finland’s Power-to-X strategy and demand for renewable fuels. A front-end engineering design (FEED) contract has been awarded, and the project has received €85 million in EU funding to accelerate development. Engineering partners include ANDRITZ, involved in technology integration, and MAN Energy Solutions, awarded a pre-engineering contract for the methanation reactor, advancing technical and design readiness ahead of later construction and commissioning. The facility is positioned to contribute significant volumes of renewable methanol to transport and industrial markets in the late 2020s.
