Nagaoka Methanation Demonstration Project

The Nagaoka Methanation Demonstration Project (Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture) is a joint INPEX–Osaka Gas (with EPC/engineering partners including Daigas/Gas & Power Solution and Chiyoda) pilot to produce e-methane by combining CO₂ captured at INPEX’s Koshijihara Plant with hydrogen and injecting the synthetic methane into INPEX’s natural-gas trunk pipeline; main construction began in 2023 and demonstration operations are planned to start in fiscal 2025 at roughly ~400 Nm³/h production capacity for the demonstration, while partners are also testing digital MRV / Clean-Gas Certificate systems (CO₂NNEX®) to track and transfer environmental attributes.
