Pegasus

The Pegasus project is SGI’s flagship Power-to-Gas initiative to produce fully renewable synthetic methane by combining green hydrogen with biogenic CO₂ captured from upgraded biogas streams. Developed with partners including Hydroalp and originally supported through an innovation framework with ENEA, the project aims to demonstrate industrial-scale e-methane production that can be directly injected into SGI’s existing gas transmission network without infrastructure upgrades. Supported by Italian regulatory funding (including ARERA’s pilot program), Pegasus serves as a technological and strategic platform for scaling up future synthetic-methane production and accelerating the decarbonization of Italy’s gas system.
