Perstorp
Project Air
Project AIR is an industrial-scale eSAF production facility being developed by Perstorp at its chemical site in Stenungsund, Sweden. The plant will produce eSAF by combining renewable hydrogen with captured CO₂ to synthesize low-carbon jet fuel using Fischer-Tropsch and/or alcohol-to-jet pathways, targeting significant lifecycle emissions reductions compared with fossil jet fuel. The project has advanced through major development milestones: an environmental permit was granted to support construction and operation; funding support was confirmed from regional and national programs to help de-risk capital costs; and engineering and front-end design activities are progressing. Project AIR is intended to help decarbonize aviation fuel supply in Sweden and Northern Europe by providing domestically produced eSAF at industrial volumes, leveraging existing infrastructure at the Stenungsund site. Commercial operations are targeted in the later 2020s, with the facility positioned as one of the region’s first large-scale power-to-liquid sustainable fuel production plants.
