Concrete Chemicals
Schwedt e-SAF
The Concrete Chemicals eSAF & CCU Project in Germany is a large-scale carbon capture and utilization development led by Concrete Chemicals, with Sasol providing fuel production and process technology expertise. Backed by €350 million in funding from the EU Innovation Fund, the project is designed to capture industrial CO₂ and convert it into sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF), e-diesel, and e-methanol by combining captured carbon with renewable hydrogen produced via electrolysis. The facility targets industrial-scale fuel production exceeding 100,000 tonnes per year, supplying drop-in low-carbon fuels compatible with existing aviation and transport infrastructure. The consortium plans to source local biogenic and industrial CO₂ through a cooperation with LEIPA Georg Leinfelder GmbH, a major recycled paper and cardboard manufacturer based in Schwedt, providing a stable captured carbon feedstock stream for fuel synthesis. (1) Concrete Chemicals leads project development and integration (2) Zaffra (Sasol-Topsoe) supports fuel synthesis technology and commercialization, and hydrogen partners will supply renewable hydrogen capacity. The project establishes one of Europe’s largest integrated CCU-to-eFuel platforms and is positioned to become a key supplier of low-carbon fuels for hard-to-abate transport sectors.
