Liquid Sun
Sun Liquid Espoo e-Methanol
Liquid Sun, together with partners ABB, Finnair, Fortum, Finavia, and VTT, is launching a pre-commercial pilot in Espoo, Finland, to produce electro-sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) from biogenic CO₂ and renewable hydrogen using low-temperature electrolysis. Set to begin operations in autumn 2025, the project aims to establish a scalable value chain for synthetic aviation fuels, leveraging Finland’s abundant biogenic CO₂ resources from the forest and biogas industries. The initiative directly supports EU ReFuelEU Aviation mandates, which will require increasing shares of renewable and synthetic fuels in aviation from 2025 onward, positioning Finland to become a leader in eSAF production while enhancing energy security, grid balancing, and aviation decarbonization.
