Forestal del Atlántico
Triskelion
The Triskelion project, led by Forestal del Atlántico S.A., is an industrial-scale e-methanol production facility under development in Galicia, Spain, designed to produce approximately 40,000 – 57,000 tonnes per year of renewable methanol by combining green hydrogen with captured CO₂, primarily captured from industrial exhaust streams, for use in shipping fuel and chemical markets. The facility is backed by a €49 million EU Innovation Fund grant and is progressing toward a final investment decision (FID) in mid-2025 with first commercial operations targeted in 2028. To support e-methanol synthesis, Topsoe has been selected as the technology provider and engineering partner, supplying its e-methanol reactor technology, catalysts, and integrated hydrogen-to-methanol solution, which helps optimize production efficiency and stability using renewable power. Additionally, BASF is collaborating with Forestal under an early disclosure agreement to provide its proprietary OASE® blue gas treatment technology for CO₂ removal from flue gases, facilitating efficient carbon capture integration into the e-methanol production process and contributing to the project’s front-end engineering design.
