Aluminium Bahrain CCS

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group (MHI) to conduct a feasibility study for applying MHI’s KM CDR Process™ carbon capture technology at the alumina-smelting facility in Bahrain. The deal, signed in January 2022, marks one of the first efforts to deploy CO₂-capture solutions in the aluminium-smelting sector and supports Bahrain’s net-zero and industrial-decarbonization ambitions. The study will evaluate technical, economic and integration feasibility of installing full-chain capture technology at the plant’s large reduction lines.
