ANRAV.beta
Heidelberg Materials has started construction of a carbon capture pilot facility at its Devnya cement plant in Bulgaria as part of its ANRAV (Advanced Novel Raw and Volatile capture) project, which is planned to encompass full carbon capture, CO₂ transport, geological storage, and utilisation. The pilot uses OxyCal post-combustion capture technology to remove CO₂ from cement kiln flue gases and generate operational data that will inform design and scale-up of a commercial-scale CCS system. The ANRAV.beta pilot is the first full-chain CCUS project in Eastern Europe, supported by approximately €190 million from the EU Innovation Fund, and aims to be operational as early as 2028 with an anticipated capture capacity of about 800,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year once fully developed.
