AtmosClear
Fidelis New Energy’ AtmosClear project (Port of Greater Baton Rouge, Louisiana) has secured major commercial and infrastructure partnerships that advance its bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) carbon removal facility. In April 2025, AtmosClear announced a **15-year carbon removal agreement with Microsoft under which Microsoft will purchase **approximately 6.75 million metric tons of engineered carbon removals produced by the facility over the term — one of the largest long-term carbon dioxide removal contracts ever signed. The plant itself is designed to capture and permanently store ~680,000 metric tons of biogenic CO₂ per year by converting sustainable biomass like sugarcane bagasse and managed forest trimmings into clean energy with capture, with construction planned to start in 2026 and operations targeted for 2029. In September 2025, AtmosClear selected ExxonMobil to provide CO₂ transportation and permanent storage services for the captured biogenic CO₂. ExxonMobil’s existing CCS infrastructure — including Class VI injection wells, pipelines, and advanced monitoring systems, will move and sequester up to 680,000 metric tons of CO₂ per year underground, enabling AtmosClear to deliver carbon removal credits to Microsoft and other customers on a large, scalable basis.
