BioCirc Vesthimmerland Biogas BECCS

Vesthimmerland is the second-largest of the five CCS plants by biomethane capacity. Its biogenic CO₂ is captured and liquefied on-site, then transported to the Port of Esbjerg and permanently stored in the Nini West reservoir through the Greensand Future project. Vesthimmerland is also the planned home of BioCirc's RECLAIM project (Renewable Energy Cluster for Agro-Industrial Methanol Production), which was awarded EUR 40 million from the EU Innovation Fund in 2025 — positioning the site as a future hub combining biogas, carbon capture, green methanol and digestate-based fertiliser production. As part of the BECCS platform, its capture unit feeds the Puro.earth-certified removal credits delivered to Microsoft from 2026 through 2032.
