Bon Wier Texas Biofuels Plant
The USA BioEnergy (USABE) Bon Wier Carbon Capture Project is a planned carbon capture and storage initiative at a new wood-to-ethanol biorefinery being developed near Bon Wier, Texas. The project will integrate carbon capture technology into the ethanol production process to extract CO₂ generated during fermentation and industrial heat production, preventing it from being emitted and preparing it for permanent geological storage. USABE has secured advanced technology through a partnership with Honeywell UOP and JM, under which Honeywell UOP will supply carbon capture and conditioning technology tailored to high-purity biogenic CO₂ streams. The facility is supported by long-term feedstock supply agreements for sustainable woody biomass, and USABE has completed land acquisition in Bon Wier for the ethanol/CCS complex, positioning the site for integrated low-carbon fuel and carbon management operations. Captured CO₂ will be compressed and conditioned onsite with Honeywell-integrated systems to pipeline quality for transportation to regional CO₂ storage hubs in the Gulf Coast or other permitted sequestration formations. The project aims to significantly reduce the lifecycle carbon intensity of ethanol production while laying the groundwork for large-scale carbon removal from biogenic sources in the U.S. Gulf Coast.
