Boral Berrima Carbon Utilization Project

Boral has completed Australia’s first trial of using recycled concrete aggregates that are recarbonated via carbon capture from its cement plant. The recycled aggregates were fed CO₂-rich flue gas from its cement operations at Berrima, then used to replace 50% of natural coarse aggregates in a low-carbon concrete mix (“Envisia®”) in a field trial. The CCS pilot plant and trial were partly funded by Australia’s federal Carbon Capture, Use and Storage (CCUS) Development Fund.
