SCHWENK
Brocini Cement Plant Carbon Capture
The Brocēni carbon capture project is a staged effort at SCHWENK Latvija’s Brocēni cement plant in Latvia to test and eventually deploy carbon capture technology for cement production. In mid-2025, a pilot-scale capture unit using Capsol Technologies’ CapsolGo® system began operating on site, capturing about 2 tonnes of CO₂ per day under real production conditions to gather performance and integration data. Two technologies are being evaluated during this test phase through the end of 2025 to identify the most suitable solution for full deployment. Based on the results of the pilot testing and feasibility work, SCHWENK plans to make a final investment decision in 2027 on building a full-scale capture plant at Brocēni capable of capturing approximately 800,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually from cement production. If approved and financed, full-scale carbon capture is expected to start operations around 2030 as part of the company’s strategy to decarbonize its cement operations and strengthen competitiveness in Northern European markets.
