The CAPURESTE carbon capture project is being developed by Hera Group with Saipem at the Herambiente waste-to-energy plant in Ferrara, Italy. The project will install Saipem’s Bluenzyme enzymatic capture system to remove CO₂ from flue gas using low-temperature heat. The capture unit is designed to process about 64,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year, capturing roughly 90% of fossil emissions from one combustion line. Captured CO₂ will be transported for offshore storage in depleted Adriatic gas fields. The project received nearly €24 million in EU Innovation Fund support toward a total capital cost of about €53 million, with operations targeted around 2028.
