Carbon2Business
The Carbon2Business (C2B) carbon capture project is being developed by Holcim Germany at its Lägerdorf cement plant to convert the site into a net-zero cement production facility by 2029. The project will install a second-generation oxyfuel kiln combined with a downstream CO₂ Compression and Purification Unit (CPU) to generate a high-concentration CO₂ stream suitable for utilization and industrial offtake. The project received €109.8 million in EU Innovation Fund support in 2022. The capture system is designed to process more than 1 million tonnes of CO₂ per year, with projected captured volumes of approximately 1.2 million tonnes annually. Instead of venting, the CO₂ will be liquefied and supplied as a feedstock to regional industrial users, including e-methanol, e-fuels, plastics manufacturing, and Power-to-X applications as part of the HySCALE / Westküste100 hydrogen and CO₂ infrastructure cluster. thyssenkrupp Polysius is providing the oxyfuel kiln technology, including patented second-generation oxyfuel combustion systems, while Linde Engineering Dresden is supplying the CO₂ purification and separation technology for the CPU unit. Holcim remains the project owner and system integrator, coordinating capture integration, plant retrofit, and industrial CO₂ offtake connections
