Cardinal Winlock Float Glass CCS

The Cardinal Winlock Float Glass Carbon Capture project is a post-combustion carbon capture installation at Cardinal Glass Industries' Cardinal FG float glass manufacturing facility in Winlock, Washington, announced August 10, 2026 as the world's first carbon capture installation at a float glass plant. The system is sized to capture approximately 130,000 metric tonnes of CO₂ per year and is designed to remove up to 95% of CO₂ from targeted float glass manufacturing process streams, addressing both the energy-related CO₂ from continuous high-temperature furnace operations and the process CO₂ released from glassmaking raw materials during the melt. The capture technology is provided by Italian industrial CCS developer K2-CO2 (Padova, Italy), which has spent several years working with Cardinal on evaluation, engineering, and adaptation of the process to the specific requirements of float glass production; Cardinal and K2-CO2 have jointly patented a system enabling the use of additional gases from the resulting flue gas stream. Feasibility, design, and engineering phases are complete, and Cardinal has issued purchase orders and paid deposits for critical and long-lead project items. System operations are planned for the first quarter of 2029
