Cemvita Rio Grande do Sul Facility

Cemvita is developing its first industrial-scale bioconversion plant in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, following a MOU signed with Invest RS (the investment promotion agency of the state government) in August 2025 at Palácio Piratini. The facility will produce FermOil™, a Renewable Natural Oil derived from crude glycerin (a biodiesel byproduct) using Cemvita's synthetic biology fermentation platform, as a feedstock for Sustainable Aviation Fuel production; the plant will also produce FermNPK™, a biofertilizer for regenerative agriculture. Rio Grande do Sul was selected for its infrastructure, abundant crude glycerin availability from the state's biodiesel industry, and low-carbon policy framework, and the plant is positioned as the world's first to operate at industrial scale using this bioconversion technology. In May 2026, Cemvita successfully completed a 75,000-liter industrial fermentation campaign at Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant in Ghent, Belgium, achieving target technical metrics and materially de-risking industrial scale-up. The campaign progressed through bench-scale, 2-liter, 30-liter, 1,500-liter, and 15,000-liter fermentations before reaching the 75,000-liter demonstration, and maintained consistent performance across a 2,500× volume increase. FermOil is designed as a drop-in feedstock compatible with existing HEFA and co-processing infrastructure, and crude glycerin qualifies under RED III Annex IX Part A, positioning the product for European SAF markets. The feedstock is sourced under a partnership with Be8, a Rio Grande do Sul biofuels producer, formalized through a separate MOU for a circular bioeconomy collaboration. Commercial development is being accelerated through several additional partnerships. In March 2026, Sumitomo Corporation do Brasil and Cemvita signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly evaluate integrating Cemvita's FermOil technology with Renewable Natural Gas (bio-methane) production at an initial Brazilian facility, assessing approximately five waste and byproduct feedstocks under a joint steering committee targeting 2026 execution. A separate partnership with REMA covers the conversion of carbon waste into sustainable oil. Cemvita accelerated its Brazilian commercial capability in September 2025 through a technology acquisition and a senior operational hire. Downstream offtake is anchored by a September 2023 agreement with United Airlines to purchase up to 1 billion gallons of Sustainable Aviation Fuel over 20 years (up to 50 million gallons annually) from Cemvita's first full-scale SAF plant, with the Rio Grande do Sul facility positioned as the reference deployment supporting that offtake pathway.
