Central Farms RNG Carbon Capture Project

Central Farms is proposing to build, own, and operate an agricultural organic material recovery facility to convert agricultural byproducts, such as cattle manure, into renewable natural gas and a soil additive. The facility plans to utilize anaerobic digestion (AD), a renewable, carbon-negative energy technology that displaces fossil fuels and prevents feedstocks, such as manure and organic food waste, from decomposing into methane and nitrous oxide. This process would also close the loop for farmers by creating a value-added product from manure while building economic resilience. Central Farms intends to implement carbon capture and storage (CCS) via an injection well, annually sequestering 15,000 tonnes of CO2. These characteristics of the AD facility and CCS make this project a global first-of-its-kind.
