CO2NTESSA

The CO₂NTESSA carbon capture project is being developed at the NEXE cement plant in Našice, Croatia to install thyssenkrupp Polysius PureOxyfuel kiln technology and enable large-scale CO₂ capture from clinker production. The retrofit will modify the existing plant to produce a high-concentration CO₂ flue gas stream suitable for capture and compression. The system is designed to capture more than 700,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year, reducing cement production emissions to near zero and enabling net-negative emissions when combined with alternative fuel use. Captured CO₂ will be transported via a refurbished pipeline as part of the GT CCS project and injected into the Bockovci onshore saline aquifer, located about 38 km from the plant. The project represents a €400 million investment and is structured to support development of Croatia’s first industrial CCS hub while lowering capture costs compared to conventional cement CCS configurations.
