CropEnergies Biowanze Carbon Capture Project
The Wanze biogenic CO₂ recovery project captures carbon dioxide from ethanol fermentation at CropEnergies’ BioWanze plant in Belgium. The CO₂ is purified, compressed, and liquefied on site for use in food, industrial, and pharmaceutical markets instead of being vented to the atmosphere. CropEnergies and SOL Group invested about €15 million to build the recovery and liquefaction facility, which is designed to capture up to 65,000 tonnes of biogenic CO₂ per year. The upgraded plant entered operation in 2022 and supplies certified renewable CO₂ produced from biomass-based fermentation.
