Umeå Energi
Dava CHP CCS
Umeå Energi is implementing a carbon capture project at the Dåvaverket cogeneration plant to recover biogenic CO₂ from biomass-based heat and power production and supply it as a feedstock to Liquid Wind’s FlagshipTHREE eFuel facility. Captured CO₂ will be purified and delivered directly to the adjacent eMethanol plant, where it will be combined with green hydrogen produced from renewable electricity to manufacture fossil-free eMethanol for the shipping sector. The capture system is designed to recover approximately 150,000 tonnes of biogenic CO₂ per year, supporting production of up to 100,000 tonnes of eMethanol annually. In parallel, residual fossil-derived CO₂ from the Dåvaverket plant is planned to be captured and directed to permanent geological storage using carbon capture and storage (CCS). The integrated CCU and CCS configuration enables both carbon recycling and long-term emissions reduction at the site. The project is co-located within the Umeå Eco Industrial Park, has secured environmental permitting and commercial agreements, and is progressing toward construction in 2026, with operations targeted for 2028.
