Delfzijl DSL-01

SkyNRG has reached financial close on its DSL-01 sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project in Delfzijl, Netherlands, marking a key milestone that enables full construction and execution of one of Europe’s first dedicated commercial-scale SAF production facilities. Construction has now begun, with startup expected in mid-2028. The plant is designed to produce approximately 100,000 tonnes per year of SAF from waste and residue-based feedstocks, alongside 35,000 tonnes of bio-byproducts such as bio-LPG and naphtha. Production will utilize the hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids (HEFA) pathway, enabled by Topsoe’s HydroFlex technology, integrating renewable hydrogen and low-carbon energy inputs to achieve lifecycle emissions reductions of roughly 80–85% compared to conventional jet fuel. KLM – Royal Dutch Airlines serves as the primary offtaker for the SAF produced, with long-term purchase agreements underpinning project bankability. Located within the Delfzijl industrial cluster, the project benefits from existing infrastructure and logistics, positioning DSL-01 as a flagship European SAF project supporting aviation decarbonization targets and scaling commercial low-carbon fuels supply.
