Packaging Corporation of America (PCA)
Deridder Carbon Capture Project
CO280 is advancing large-scale carbon dioxide removal (CDR) in the U.S. pulp and paper industry, recently signing a $90 million offtake agreement with JPMorgan Chase for 450,000 tons of captured CO₂ over 13 years at under $200/ton, following an earlier 3.7 Mt deal with Microsoft. Using SLB Capturi technology, CO280 retrofits mills to capture biogenic emissions from wood waste boilers and store them underground, with ambitions to scale to 10 Mt/year across 10+ projects. In parallel, Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) piloted an 8-month amine-based capture system at one of its mills, proving the potential for carbon-negative packaging by sequestering biomass-derived CO₂ in nearby saline aquifers. PCA is now progressing to detailed engineering studies, targeting up to 1.75 Mt/year of storage by 2040 as part of its broader decarbonization roadmap.
