CF Industries
Donaldsonville Complex
The Donaldsonville carbon capture project is a large-scale system built at CF Industries’ Donaldsonville ammonia complex in Louisiana to capture, compress, and permanently store carbon dioxide emissions that would otherwise be released to the atmosphere. The project includes a CO₂ dehydration and compression facility that processes the plant’s CO₂ stream so it can be transported and sequestered safely underground. The capture system is sized to handle up to about 2 million metric tons of CO₂ per year, which is routed to ExxonMobil’s storage infrastructure for long-term geologic sequestration. CF Industries started up the dehydration and compression unit in mid-2025, enabling the first permanent sequestration of CO₂ from the Donaldsonville facility and helping the company qualify for federal 45Q tax credits tied to captured and stored CO₂. ExxonMobil’s Low Carbon Solutions business is the partner that transports and stores the CO₂ through its pipeline network and storage sites.
