NextEra Energy and Exxon Mobil announced a partnership to develop a 1.2 gigawatt natural gas–fired power plant in the southeastern United States that will be fitted with carbon capture and sequestration technology to drastically cut CO₂ emissions from the facility; the companies have secured about 2,500 acres near Exxon’s existing CO₂ pipeline infrastructure.
