Finnfjord
Finnfjord CO2 Utilization
The Finnfjord project is a commercial-scale e-methanol facility being developed by Carbon Recycling International (CRI) in northern Norway adjacent to the Finnfjord ferrosilicon plant in Troms and Finnmark. The project is designed to capture CO₂ emissions from the ferrosilicon plant flue gas, targeting up to about 300,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year, and combine the captured carbon with green hydrogen to synthesize e-methanol, a sustainable fuel and chemical feedstock. CRI’s proprietary Emissions-to-Liquids (ETL) technology converts industrial CO₂ waste streams into methanol in a commercially scalable process that supports decarbonization and circular economy aims. The planned facility is expected to produce approximately 100,000 tonnes of e-methanol annually and aims to reduce industrial emissions by capturing and re-using a significant portion of the ferrosilicon plant’s CO₂ output. The co-located development creates synergies through shared energy and infrastructure and is advancing early engineering and permitting work with the goal of reaching investment decision and construction in the mid-2020s and targeted operations by 2025 or later.
