DOW
Fort Saskatchewan Path2Zero Project
The Fort Saskatchewan carbon capture project is being developed at Dow’s existing chemical manufacturing site in Alberta, Canada as part of its Path2Zero expansion. The project includes capturing CO₂ from hydrogen production and process off-gas streams generated at the site, then transporting the captured CO₂ to off-site geological storage for permanent sequestration. The capture system is designed to handle roughly one million metric tons of CO₂ per year once fully operational. Dow approved final investment for the project in late 2023 and began early construction activities in 2024. In its first quarter 2025 earnings update, the company announced that major construction has been delayed to better align capital spending with market conditions, while keeping the project active in its long-term portfolio. The carbon capture and storage infrastructure remains a core component of the planned site retrofit and expansion once construction resumes.
