GLOBE

The GLOBE carbon capture project is being developed by Lhoist Group at its Marche-les-Dames dolime production site in Belgium to decarbonize lime manufacturing using Oxyfuel-enabled carbon capture. The project will install a next-generation oxyfuel kiln that enriches exhaust CO₂ concentrations, making downstream carbon capture, transport, and storage more efficient. Phase 1 of the project (2024–2027) focuses on commissioning the new kiln and site infrastructure, reducing specific CO₂ emissions by 15–30 % through oxyfuel combustion and biomass use. Phase 2 (starting in 2028) will add carbon capture technology to collect CO₂ from the flue gas, compress and condition it for transport via pipeline to secure geological storage in the North Sea region. The total investment for GLOBE exceeds €250 million, with operations targeted to begin around 2031.
