INEOS
Grangemouth Blue Hydrogen Project
In 2021, INEOS announced a $1.4 billion blue hydrogen project at its Grangemouth refinery, aiming to produce up to 190,000 t/yr of hydrogen from natural gas with CCS via the Acorn project to cut site CO₂ emissions by 60% by 2030. However, by 2024 momentum shifted as RWE unveiled a large-scale green hydrogen plant at Grangemouth, starting with 200 MW of electrolyzers (expandable to 600 MW) powered by renewables, set to deliver hydrogen to INEOS by 2029. In 2025, the refinery shut down.
