Himeji 2 Power Plant Carbon Capture Project

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has begun operations of a new CO₂ capture pilot plant at Kansai Electric Power’s Himeji No.2 power station in Hyogo Prefecture. The facility captures about five tons of CO₂ per day from gas turbine exhaust, serving as a testbed for next-generation capture technologies developed jointly with KEPCO and ExxonMobil. Improvements focus on energy efficiency, cost reduction, lower solvent degradation, and reduced emissions (e.g. amine emissions) via processes like the "Advanced KM CDR Process™" using a solvent called KS-21™.
