IFCo Carbon Capture Project

OCI approved the first phase of a carbon capture and sequestration project at its Iowa Fertilizer Company facility, designed to abate about 450,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year and produce low-carbon ammonia, urea, and diesel exhaust fluid. The company signed long-term agreements with Navigator for CO₂ transport and storage via the Heartland Greenway pipeline and with Enerflex to deliver a modular capture facility, with phase one scheduled for completion by Q1 2025. A second phase under study could increase abatement to around 700,000 tonnes annually, potentially capturing nearly all post-combustion emissions from IFCo. Capital expenditure for the project is estimated at about $60 million over 2022-2025. OCI sold the Iowa Fertilizer facility to Koch in 2024.
