InBECCS

Little bit more tight InBECCS (Ince Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage) is a Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage retrofit at Evero Energy's Ince Bio Power biomass plant in Ince, Cheshire, within the HyNet industrial cluster in North West England. The project will install Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' post-combustion amine capture technology on the existing waste-wood-fired plant to capture up to 250,000 tonnes of biogenic CO₂ per year (revised up from 217,000 tpa at the August 2025 selection stage). The Ince plant currently processes approximately 170,000 tonnes per year of Category C domestic waste wood, and the retrofit converts those biogenic combustion emissions into permanent atmospheric removals, with the captured CO₂ transported and sequestered under the Irish Sea via HyNet's shared transport and storage infrastructure. The project was selected by the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero on August 5, 2025 as one of two prioritised projects on the Project Negotiation List under the Government's Greenhouse Gas Removals (GGR) business model as part of the HyNet Track-1 Expansion. On December 22, 2025 it became the first UK Greenhouse Gas Removal facility listed on the Puro.earth registry, and Evero submitted the planning application on May 29, 2026. Operations are targeted from 2030. InBECCS is the pathfinder project under the UK's GGR business model and the foundation of Evero's broader strategy to deploy BECCS retrofits across its UK waste-wood portfolio.
