Kalundborg Hub Asnaes

The Asnæs Carbon Capture Project is part of Ørsted’s Ørsted Kalundborg CO₂ Hub — a full value-chain CCS initiative in Denmark that will capture CO₂ emissions from biogenic flue gas at the woodchip-fired Asnæs Power Station in Kalundborg. The capture system, based on modular SLB Capturi Just Catch technology, is designed to extract approximately 280,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year from the power station’s biomass combustion exhaust for conditioning, liquefaction, and transport for permanent geological storage in the Norwegian North Sea via the Northern Lights storage network. Asnæs will function as the central CO₂ hub within the project and is being constructed alongside complementary capture at Ørsted’s Avedøre Power Station, with the combined facilities expected to capture up to 430,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually starting in early 2026. The project was awarded a 20-year CCS contract by the Danish Energy Agency and is progressing through construction and commissioning of capture units and intermediate storage infrastructure, supporting Denmark’s biogenic carbon removal and climate goals
