Kearl Pathways Carbon Capture Project

As part of the Pathways Alliance CCS initiative, the Kearl oilsands facility (like other major oil-sands sites) would in principle supply captured CO₂ from its steam-generation and other emissions-intensive operations; that CO₂ would then be compressed, transported via the Alliance’s proposed ~400-kilometre CO₂ pipeline network, and injected into the shared underground storage hub near Cold Lake, Alberta — the core of Pathways’ joint carbon-transportation and storage infrastructure, intended to aggregate CO₂ from 20+ oilsands facilities for permanent deep-saline sandstone sequestration.
