Kokkola Energia Carbon Capture Project

The Kokkola CCS and e-fuels initiative centers on the Vanadis Fuels Project in Finland’s Kokkola Industrial Park (KIP), led by Total Eren and Aliceco with support from local partners such as Kokkolan Energia, KIP, and the Port of Kokkola. The project will capture biogenic CO₂ from Kokkola Energia’s biomass boilers using Aliceco’s novel oxygen-combustion technology, applied for the first time at commercial scale, and use the CO₂ as a feedstock to produce up to 400,000 tons of e-methanol annually. The process will pair the captured CO₂ with green hydrogen generated by electrolyzers powered by wind and solar. Total Eren contributes expertise in renewables, hydrogen production, and large-scale project execution, while Aliceco leads local development.
