Kotka Carbon Capture Project

Nordic Ren-Gas Oy is developing a record size Power-to-Gas project in Kotka. The goal of the project is to build a production facility that produces renewable e-methane, hydrogen, and district heating from excess heat from the process. The project is developed in a close co-operation with Kotkan Energia. Carbon dioxide is captured from Kotkan Energia Waste-to-Energy plant and transported to the e-methane plant in Mussalo, Palaslahti industrial area. The project will be executed in phases. The construction of the first phase is planned to take place between 2026-2028. In the extension phase, the production capacity of the plant will be doubled.
