Linde BOC Teesside Hydrogen Carbon Capture Project
Linde subsidiary BOC UK & Ireland has commissioned a new carbon capture and liquefaction plant at its North Tees Hydrogen site in Stockton-on-Tees, Teesside, UK, officially opened on October 23, 2026 after many months of construction. The facility captures CO₂ from BOC’s existing steam methane reforming (SMR) hydrogen production plant, which has been operating in the area for decades, and processes it into food, beverage, and pharmaceutical-grade merchant CO₂ for UK bulk supply customers. The plant was built to help diversify UK domestic CO₂ supply, which has been repeatedly disrupted by industrial shutdowns, seasonal shortages, and the closure of major UK CO₂-producing plants (notably ammonia and fertilizer sites), leaving the UK heavily reliant on industrial by-products and European imports. The opening comes shortly after the UK government closed a call for evidence on CO₂ supply resilience.
