Air Products
Louisiana Clean Energy Complex
Air Products’ Louisiana Clean Energy Complex is designed as a world-scale blue-hydrogen and ammonia production facility located in eastern Louisiana, aiming to produce more than 750 million standard cubic feet per day of hydrogen and capture around 95% of generated CO₂, with a sequestration target of ~5 million tonnes CO₂ per year through new pipelines and injection wells. Startup was originally targeted for 2028, and the project was announced with a budget estimated between US $4.5-7 billion. However, in 2025 the company announced a delay in the project’s timeline—with full operations now expected in late 2028 or early 2029—as Air Products seeks to “de-risk” the development, reduce new capital spending, and only proceed when firm offtake agreements are in place. The delay reflects larger industry challenges around blue-hydrogen and large-scale CCS execution, including customer lock-in, cost escalation, and regulatory uncertainty.
