Mäntsälän Biovoima Carbon Utilization Project
Auris Energia and Carbonaide are developing Finland’s first biogenic CO₂ capture and utilization project at a biogas facility in Mäntsälä, where CO₂ separated during biomethane production will be captured and supplied for industrial use. The project integrates Auris Energia’s biogas operations with Carbonaide’s carbon utilization technology, which mineralizes CO₂ into concrete during curing, permanently storing it in building materials. The facility captures biogenic CO₂ streams generated from biogas upgrading, which would otherwise be vented, and redirects them into Carbonaide’s system for use in low-carbon concrete production. Carbonaide’s technology enables permanent storage of CO₂ within concrete while reducing cement demand, effectively turning construction materials into a carbon sink. While project-specific capture volumes have not been publicly disclosed, Carbonaide’s modular systems have demonstrated capacity at pilot scale and are designed to scale across industrial facilities, with the Mäntsälä project serving as a first-of-a-kind deployment linking biogenic CO₂ capture from biogas production with downstream mineralization and utilization in the construction sector.
