Mercer Peace River Carbon Capture

The Mercer International / Svante Alberta Carbon Capture Project is a carbon capture initiative at Mercer’s pulp mill in northern Alberta that installs Svante’s solid sorbent capture technology to remove CO₂ from biomass-derived flue gas. The modular capture system separates CO₂ from the mill’s emissions, compresses and conditions it, and prepares it for transport to regional storage infrastructure for permanent geological storage. Mercer International is the host site and operator, and Svante provides the capture technology and system integration, demonstrating industrial-scale CO₂ removal in the forest products sector as part of Alberta’s growing CCS ecosystem.
