Capture6
Monarch
Project Monarch is an integrated water management and carbon removal initiative led by Capture6 in partnership with the Palmdale Water District in Southern California. It combines water purification and direct air capture (DAC) technologies to turn a costly brine waste stream from the Pure Water Antelope Valley facility into a climate-positive asset that delivers both clean water and permanent CO₂ removal. The project addresses severe water stress and rising brine disposal costs by integrating Capture6’s water-positive DAC system with the existing water treatment infrastructure. Instead of relying on traditional brine evaporation ponds, Monarch’s process converts brine into usable water, captures carbon from the atmosphere, and produces green chemical co-products, advancing regional water resilience and durable climate impact. Monarch is structured in phased deployment, beginning with the demonstration scale integrated facility now under construction, supported by state funding and climate-tech investment to accelerate development. Future phases aim to expand capacity to capture tens of thousands of tonnes of CO₂ per year and recover hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of freshwater annually, with operational targets through the late 2020s.
