Mosusol netCO2
Mosusol netCO₂ is a cement sector carbon capture, transport, and storage project being developed at Cementos Molins’ Sant Vicenç dels Horts cement plant in the Baix Llobregat county near Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, led by Molins in partnership with Spanish gas transmission system operator Enagás and global industrial gas major Linde. The project will capture approximately 1 million tonnes of CO₂ per year, covering about 97% of the plant’s clinker production emissions and avoiding up to 1.1 million tonnes of total emissions annually, using carbon capture technology supplied by Linde (which will also supply oxygen for the production process, suggesting an oxyfuel combustion approach). Enagás will develop the dedicated CO₂ transport infrastructure to move captured CO₂ from Sant Vicenç dels Horts to downstream storage. Total project cost is estimated at approximately €590 million, and Molins has committed to achieving carbon neutrality at the Sant Vicenç dels Horts plant by 2031. On October 20, 2026, the Mosusol netCO₂ project was selected for EU Innovation Fund funding, subject to signing a grant agreement, following the project’s submission to the Innovation Fund 2025 call. The project is positioned by the consortium as a scalable and replicable model that could anchor a broader CO₂ capture, transport, use, and storage hub serving Catalonia’s roughly 5 million tonnes per year of hard-to-abate industrial emissions, and more broadly across the Mediterranean region. CO₂ storage endpoint has not been publicly disclosed in the available coverage, though the Enagás transport infrastructure is positioned to connect to future Spanish and broader EU CCS storage networks.
